My Work at Penn

My identities as a graduate student through Penn GSE are vastly different than the ones I have mentioned elsewhere on this site. In contrast to being a teacher, I had to find time outside of our already packed schedules to engage with the Penn community. I have always struggled with my desire to say yes to everything that I'm interested in, which is... everything. Resilience manifests itself when I find, within myself, the will to better the community that I am a part of, because I deeply care about it, and want to help the community, as well as everyone within it, to grow and to thrive.

BIPOC Affinity Group Work

During my second year of the fellowship, I was one of three leaders for the BIPOC affinity group within the BSTR strand of the program at Penn.

In the photo on the left, I had the privilege to attend PoCC in San Antonio, TX, in November, 2022. It was an invaluable experience to connect with so many people out there who have gone and are still going through similar but also vastly different experiences in independent schools around the world.

Unpacking Power and Equity in Schools

In the spring of 2022, I was also fortunate enough to participate in a workshop offered by Penn on unpacking power and equity in schools. As a small group, we met once a month to discuss relevant topics regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion work at our institutions.

ISTR Equity Committee

I am currently a member of the Equity Committee for the Penn GSE ISTR Program. I serve on the First-Generation/Low Income sub-committee to help better the experience of future teaching fellows. Most recently, we worked on creating infographics to convey important information regarding moving-in, getting health insurance, asking for help in general, as well as establishing a fund to help fellows in need to pay the Penn tuition.

Next, you should read about my work on specifically building resilience in the classroom culture, for individual students, and in the community for adults!

Or, you could read more about my inquiry project specifically! You will learn about existing literature, my data collection tools, and see some student artifacts!
